From death squads for the elderly to health clinics that appear in the night, next door to a school near you, what does the health clinic mean for you and your kids? It depends on which side you are on—and yes, there are at least two sides.
To some the healthcare reform debate is littered with bias and prejudice. Some political leaders are content with the mis-education of the American public who are under the impression that the health reform means that while you are at your low paying job trembling from fear of layoff, your daughter will skip English class and go get an abortion with Raul or Jamal and be back just in time for Health Class. Wouldn’t any deviant, sexually active teen rather get a detention for skipping class rather than get socked in the mouth by her immigrant stepfather for coming home pregnant.
Still others (political leaders) sit idle while party loyalist disrupt town hall meetings—interrupting the collaborative forum between citizen and leader by equating the democrat health reform bill to “Nazi” like policy. (http://www.seattlepi.com/national/1110ap_us_health_care_frank.html) I don’t know why our most trusted and loyal leaders, our politicians, would waste 13 pounds of paper (the bill is 1017 pages) on this type of reform. We all know that minorities and immigrants are born pregnant—similar to how gay people—are not born gay. Besides, why would anyone want to put clinics closer to schools, let alone in under privileged and mismanaged communities. Ensuring that kids have adequate and convenient care while being able to engage in school is no excuse. In fact, I would call for health reform that places all clinics and hospitals, which, are in under privileged and mismanaged communities, in tree houses--high above the greedy, unappreciative and non-deserving healthcare consuming immigrants and minorities. The media would have you believe that citizens are in an uproar—upset that “illegals” are going to continue to suck up the health care until no more exist and the industry collapses from “hyper-immigrant consumption.” No worries because, per CNN the Bill, HR 3200, specifically bars coverage for illegal immigrants. It is a quagmire for hospitals as most emergency rooms give stabilizing care regardless whether you are citizens or not. While I admit I have not gone to a town meeting the latest rumors about “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, H.R. 3200” are disturbing. I overheard a group of people saying how the people that lived in the center of the earth would be eligible for health care under Obama’s plan. I also heard that doctors were going to be placed on doctor farms, where much like dairy cows—they would “not” be fed steroids to increase their performance. The doctors would be taken off site once a month in an attempt to breed with other health professionals in an attempt to breed more caregivers. Female doctors would be kept on site to nurse baby doctors until they were mature enough to offer care to an undeserving immigrant who snuck here to do crime and suck up all of the health care. Don’t forget about grandma; she and her partner would surely be killed if they were measured against the almighty dollar bill. Just imagine the scene as dozens of elderly citizens, coughing and sniffling marched off to their death like lemmings, all under the guise of “affordable health choices.” But seriously, regardless of your position, just exhale, read and be open to learning new things. When shock and awe politics are applied to the American people it is often done out of desperation, courtesy of whomsoever stands to lose the most. At face value our government spent over $700 billion on TARP bailouts with the intent to help the U.S. rebound from a depression like economic lull. It is arguable whether the benefits of the TARP bailout trickled down to assist Americans losing their homes and jobs in timely fashion—or if the money trickled down at all. When the cost of healthcare reform is pitted against the splurge of funds dispersed to help (support) failing business in the fall of 2008 it would appear to be a common sense issue…If we can afford to give billions to this country’s elite business owners and their failing businesses—wouldn’t it make sense that we spend money where and when it really matters—on equitable health policy and practices. American, non-whites, with low income (but do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid) are more likely than whites to report having poor health, they have the highest infant immortality rates, and are least likely to have health insurance (based on Kaiser Family Foundation report 2007). The fact is race, class and education have a huge impact on the healthcare process and in many cases the care received. There are numerous events in this country’s history that have led to the current disparities between class and race and ensuring equal access and equal care is not entitlement or a handout….it is simply the right thing to do. Here are some stats to speak to the relevance of race and income in health care, courtesy of www.peoplepress.org:
The above commentary is meant to give the health reform debate a comedic spin, but one fact that cannot be skewed: ignorance is not cool…. read about the bill and draw your own conclusion, but be engaged. Use your outside voice to impact your world and get the results you want. Don’t get misled by misinformation…share and educate.
