I spent the past two weeks in a rural area where remarkably, T-Mobile does not reach. It was strange not getting streaming email, constantly vibrating in my pocket or purse. That is really all I use my Blackberry for, as I am not much of a phone talker. Anyway, I digress... All I have to say is thank God (literally-Hallelujah!) that there are still places in this gorgeous country of ours where you can actually go and rejuvenate your weary bones and mind.

chickcoupSeriously y’all, I was playing with cows and chickens, sleeping in a cabin, walking down streets where maybe ten cars a day (and the same ones at that), pass by. Where people grow gardens in their yard, and not in boxes or on rooftops and windowpanes. I went for long walks with four tag-along dogs in misty rain or morning fog and truly went back to MY semi-country roots. It was glorious! (The photos on this page are from my romps on the property and a nearby state park.)

cowsattroughI felt really at home in the rural town of Thomaston, GA. I think the biggest reason: there doesn’t seem to be any “keeping up with the Joneses” going on. I am not about that type of living, whatsoever, so being in an environment where people like you for you and seem happy and relaxed, has been foreign to me for years. My host, a dear friend of mine, said they knew their neighbors by the end of the first week of moving in. I have lived in my community for over a year and my neighbors barely say hello or look my way when we pass.

dogs-pondWhy is this important? Because as a society, American’s have lost their identity: we have forgotten that the person next door is worth knowing. We have forgotten what it’s like to be community driven instead of ‘ME’ driven. We have forgotten how to walk down the road of life without a purpose...other than to just be walking down the road and enjoying that road. Yes, this is a metaphor...

I have been so relaxed that it has barely bothered this, deadline driven, Editor/Writer, that I am not meeting my own deadlines this month. It’s not my fault either, which also isn’t annoying me like it normally would...so, you’ll get the Green Biz Spotlight as soon as the person I am introducing you to, gets her part to me. Smile We have given you some other items to peruse in the meantime. We are doing things a bit differently in the Green Central landing section...cabin2
