No matter how long or how far, when you are away from someone you love any time or distance can be an eternity. I joined the military 4 ½ years after my daughter was born. It was a dual sacrifice; parting from my child to provide opportunity; at risk of losing life or limb in the process. This country’s service men and women endure enormous challenges when leaving behind the uniform and I sincerely wish you, the volunteer, an abundance of health and good fortune as you return to where ever you call home.

I give up certain freedoms to protect yours. I fight and train in the snow and rain… So that our children can run and play in the sun. I work hard and go without rest… So that families might sleep in peace. It has been months since I have known the kiss of my lady… Or the warmth of her body. She may not like me as much when I return… The absence has made me hard. I miss her. I’ve grown accustomed to pain… So that others may pursue pleasures. I am without the ones I love… So that we all may live together. So set your heart at ease. Not only am I loyal to you… I am loyal to my country. She may have my body… But you have my last name While I am gone you raise our child. While you are home I support a nation. Hold these words tight in your little hand… I pray you understand. Please don’t forget me… Love the husband, brother, and son… Love the Soldier. Love me? |
