An original poem, written by Jennifer A. Sheffield
Dim are the city lights
on the dirt, we say, that sleeps in its streets.
On even the ignoble lives,
gone grim.
Take a trip, and you’ll see around the rim.

Take from the meadows that which your heart desires.
Run, don’t hide, with leaps and bounds—towards life and all it’s luster.
Behold the sights; so bountiful.
Lift the smells, oh, how fragrant.
Hold hands with the flowers and linger with the sun’s rays.
Relish in the glories provided to us by nature.
Bribe your senses—negotiate with your needs.
Don’t let them control what you want.
Take from the meadows—potential life!

As a teen parent, challenges are further magnified by your mental and physical growth.
It is both a benefit and loss that our children are subject to an adult life based on adolescent choices.

No matter how long or how far, when you are away from someone you love any time or distance can be an eternity. I joined the military 4 ½ years after my daughter was born. It was a dual sacrifice; parting from my child to provide opportunity; at risk of losing life or limb in the process. This country’s service men and women endure enormous challenges when leaving behind the uniform and I sincerely wish you, the volunteer, an abundance of health and good fortune as you return to where ever you call home.

Any degree of deceit, from the little white lie to the intended deceit, any deviation from honesty encourages regression of personal values. Honesty and integrity have become perishable skills…use it…or loose it. However, be prepared; to many ignorance offers a bliss that they would rather be left alone to enjoy.
--J. Ferrer
