This month we decided to pay homage to our big sibling site, Ode Magazine. We didn't interview anyone there (and we hope they don't get ticked we borrowed their logo for this) instead decided to tell you a bit about Ode and their coolness factor, which it a level Ice Blue in our book....
attribute really looks up to Ode, in fact, we truly aspire to someday be as fabulous a publication as they are. Their mission and ours are similar, and no, we are not copying them...really, we swear! Ode, in their own words: "In print and online, Ode's aim is to bring a new reality into view, to explore opportunities for positive change in our daily lives and our daily minds." Ode was began in the Netherlands, in 1995, by Jurriaan Kamp and Helene de Puy. For ten years they only published it in Dutch. Then, thank goodness, in 2004 the pair (who are joined both in business and in marriage) decided it was time to expand to the U.S. market and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to begin publishing in English (ironically, also where attribute was founded). Ode's readership is very loyal and they have built a constituency all over the world. Their site states 100, 000 "intelligent optimists" read them annually. Intelligent optimists... what is this you say? These are what Ode call the movers and shakers who are cool enough to be their readers. Last year Ode introduced their first annual list of people who are intelligently having a positive impact on the world. ("People who should be famous, but aren't yet") You can see the 2008 list of Intelligent Optimist nominees here. You might recognize a person on that list, our very own Founding Editor...SRL. She is pretty modest about this but completely honored to be included in Ode's inaugural list of Intelligent Optimists. The article's in Ode are a combination of heartwarming and informative. They shed light on global efforts to make life on planet Earth, and planet Earth herself, better for all. They list efforts events and the shining faces of happy people who give something back in both big and small ways. They know that it's not the size, but the effort that impacts us all. attribute magazine highly recommends our readers check out Ode magazine, either on newsstands or online, and spread the word about this wonderful effort and a global community of good. |
